Migration observation site.
Situated at an altitude of 966 meters, the Le Hucel observation site lies in the middle of a gully around 3 kilometers wide, formed by the Mémises mountains, which rise to 1674 meters to the south, and Lake Geneva to the north.
Most birds of prey use this route to avoid crossing the lake, preferring to fly along the shore. During their migration, they can be observed on the slopes of Mont-Pèlerin (Corseaux, Chardonne, Chexbres, Jongny).
Le Hucel is a prime site for observing spring migration (early February to early June). No fewer than 15,000 birds of prey, mainly Common Buzzards, Black Kites, Sparrowhawks and Honey Buzzards. Some thirty black cranes pass through the site every year, as do rarer species such as the Osprey, Percnopter Vulture, Common Eagle and Booted Eagle.
Le Hucel is also a paragliding launch site.
Access
300 m from the town center, at the hamlet of Le Nouy, head towards Le Hucel. The observation point is located at the foot of a relay antenna, visible from a great distance, overlooking the hamlet. From the hamlet, it’s a ten-minute walk along a relatively difficult path.
